What is Colon Cancer?

Many people wonder how does cancer spread through the body. This video shows how another form of skin cancer known as melanoma often can spread rapidly. Although the exact look of cancer cells vary depending on the kind of cancer and how they spread, the ideas shown here are helpful in learning how any cancer might spread.

When a malignant cell is capable of traveling through the entire body of a person, this is referred to as metastatic cancer. These cancer cells may have initially originated from another part of the body or from someone who is receiving treatment for another condition or disease. While primary cancer usually affects the lungs, stomach, liver, bones and other organs, metastatic cancer cells can spread to the brain, spinal cord, heart, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, lips, tongue, nail, esophagus and other parts of the body.

In addition to spreading from the primary cancer site, some types of cancer cells travel to locations not associated with the original cancerous area. For example, breast cancer that has spread from the chest can travel to the abdomen or pleura. The same is true for lung cancer, which spreads to the liver or lungs if it spreads through the blood stream.

Primary cancer has many stages before it spreads to other parts of the body. This means that the cancer cells spread from one place to another at an increasing rate over time. This type of cancer has more symptoms and causes more problems as it spreads. For example, it is possible to have a tumor that is only small in size. If the tumor grows to be quite large, the cancer is referred to as metastatic سرطان .

A doctor who suspects cancer cells spread to other parts of the body first performs a biopsy. During the biopsy, doctors take a sample of tissue or blood that comes from the tumor. After the biopsy, doctors will use the sample to look for signs of the disease. If the sample shows cancer cells, a tissue sample from the other part of the body must be taken and sent to a lab. Special machines will separate the blood cells from the bone marrow.

Specialists at the lab will examine the bone marrow and look for the disease markers. If the samples from the normal cells and tumors are combined, they will be able to identify the specific type of cancer. Doctors can also test for the disease and monitor the tumors to determine how far the cancer cells have spread to other parts of the body.
